Reading music is a vital and important part of learning to play the piano. Even if you choose to study jazz piano, which focuses more on improvisation and developing your ear, you still need to be able to read properly in order to pick a standard at will and play it confidently.
However, you do not need any prior experience to join a piano course with us.
You will need an instrument in order to practise.
However, you do not need to own one from the very beginning. You may rent a digital piano from us for £30 per calendar month, or practise at our premises (£12.50 per hour) if you would like access to a real acoustic piano.
You may also choose to purchase a digital piano to get started. Decent-quality instruments begin at around £300. There are also second-hand options available at lower prices.
What is important is not to delay your lessons while trying to arrange everything perfectly.
By starting your lessons, we can guide you properly. You may rent for the first few months and then purchase your own instrument once you feel ready.

For absolute beginners, we recommend practising a minimum of 15–20 minutes per day, around four to five days per week.
If you wish to make faster progress, you can — and should — practise more than this. However, the above represents the minimum we would suggest in order to see steady improvement.
For more advanced players, practice time may increase to 60–90 minutes per day.
Ultimately, it depends on your musical goals and what you wish to achieve with the instrument.
That said, do not feel discouraged. A little practice over a long period of time is far more effective than practising intensively for a short while and then stopping.
The key is consistency — even 15 minutes per day, done regularly, will yield results.

In fact, some of the world’s greatest improvisers developed extraordinary musical instinct without relying heavily on theoretical terminology. They understood sound, harmony, and movement intuitively.
We can absolutely help you learn jazz piano by ear. We will guide you in developing your listening skills, improvisation, harmonic awareness, and overall understanding of jazz language.

Lessons are typically 30, 45, or 60 minutes. You can attend once or twice per week depending on your goals and schedule. We always recommend studying twice weekly where budget and schedule permits. Two touches with your teacher will give you the best possible return and help you to make fast progress!
Lessons take place at our Fitzrovia studio (W1W 7QF) or online via Zoom—choose what suits you best, or mix both if you travel.
Yes. We prepare for ABRSM, Trinity and Rockschool across multiple instruments, with structured milestones and mock exams to help you succeed. Kindly note that examinations are optional and you can of course learn the piano with us purely for your own pleasure!
