Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers about our music lessons, teachers, scheduling and more. If you can’t see what you’re looking for, we’re here to help.
Can I book a trial lesson?
Yes, certainly. We offer trial lessons for all instruments so that you can meet your prospective teacher, experience our approach, and ensure that the environment suits you before making any commitment. Your introductory lesson lasts 45 minutes.
Are your lessons suitable for beginners?
Absolutely. We warmly welcome complete beginners as well as more experienced musicians. All lessons are tailored to your current level and pace, ensuring you feel supported and make steady progress from the very first session.
What ages do you teach?
Our lessons are for adults and teenagers, from complete beginners to advanced players. If you'd like advice on whether lessons are right for you or your teenager, get in touch and we'll gladly help.
For younger children, we recommend the Children’s Music Academy.
Where are lessons held?
Lessons take place at our beautiful Fitzrovia Music Studios, located at 60–62 Great Titchfield Street, Fitzrovia, W1W 7QF. To ensure a calm and focused learning environment, visits are strictly by appointment only.
How do I get to the studio?
The nearest Underground station is Oxford Circus (Central, Victoria and Bakerloo lines), about a 6-minute walk away. From the station, walk east along Oxford Street, turn left into Great Portland Street, then take the first right into Market Place, which leads into Great Titchfield Street. Turn left and continue north past Margaret Street and Mortimer Street. Numbers 60–62 are on your right, just before Riding House Street.
Can I start my course at any time?
Yes, absolutely. We are open throughout the year, and you may begin your course whenever you are ready. Simply contact us and begin your musical journey with one of our outstanding teachers.
What instruments do you teach?
How long are the lessons?
Lessons are typically 30, 45 or 60 minutes in length. You may attend once or twice per week, depending on your schedule and learning objectives. In line with international teaching methods, we recommend two lessons per week for optimal progress.
How much do lessons cost?
£155 per calendar month buys four 30-minute one-to-one lessons with your own teacher. Longer lessons (45 or 60 minutes) cost more. A one-off registration fee of £50 applies when you enrol.
The minimum commitment is your first two months of lessons. After that, you can stop at any time with four teaching weeks’ notice, starting from the day you give it.
Not sure which lesson length suits you? Ask us before you enrol and we’ll advise.
How many lessons do I get each month?
Your lessons are weekly, on a fixed day and time. Each quarter has 13 weeks and includes 12 lessons: four lessons per calendar month on average.
So the number in a single month varies. A month with five of your lesson day can have five lessons; the month with the quarter’s Academy closure week can have three. Over the quarter it always comes back to 12, and your monthly payment stays the same.
With two lessons a week, each quarter includes 24 lessons: eight a month on average. For the price of a twice-weekly course, ask us and we’ll send you the details for your lesson length.
Can adults learn music at LMT?
Yes — in fact, the vast majority of our students are adults. Whether you are starting from scratch, returning after many years, or refining advanced skills, it is never too late to begin or continue your musical journey with expert guidance.
Do you prepare students for music exams?
Yes, we routinely prepare students for ABRSM, Trinity, Rockschool and other recognised examination boards. We offer exam preparation across piano, guitar, singing, violin, cello, saxophone and several other instruments, ensuring you are thoroughly guided in both performance and theory to achieve the best possible results.
Why does the right teacher matter so much?
Because the habits you form in your first months stay with you, and unlearning a bad one takes far longer than learning it right. Every LMT teacher is a professional musician who teaches your instrument.
Can I choose my teacher?
Yes. We usually recommend a teacher based on your musical goals, experience and availability, but you are very welcome to express a preference or request a specific instructor. If you ever feel that another teacher may be a better fit, we can assist you with a smooth transition.
Do you offer online lessons?
Yes, we provide high-quality online tuition via Zoom. This is ideal if you travel frequently, live outside London, or simply prefer to learn from the comfort of your own home while receiving the same professional instruction.
Can I change instrument later?
We fully support such transitions and can guide you in timing and planning the change so that your musical development remains steady and enjoyable.
Do you offer lessons during holidays?
Yes. We teach throughout the year, including school and public holidays, apart from one Academy closure week each quarter. We tell you the closure dates in advance.
Your lessons stay on your set day and time, and courses can’t be put on hold. If you’re travelling, you can use your rescheduling allowance (with 48 hours’ notice, subject to teacher availability), or ask to take that lesson online.
What is your rescheduling policy?
Tell us by email or WhatsApp at least 48 hours before the lesson, then arrange the new time directly with your teacher. You can reschedule up to two lessons per quarter (four if you have two lessons a week). The new time depends on your teacher’s availability, so we can’t guarantee it, and a rescheduled lesson must be taken within the same quarter.
If your teacher or the Academy cancels a lesson, arranging the replacement is our job, within four weeks.
Lessons cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice, or once your allowance is used, are charged in full and not replaced. In a genuine emergency we may, at our discretion, treat a late cancellation as if notice had been given.
Do I need my own instrument?
Once you are ready, we will gladly advise you on whether to buy or rent, and help you choose an instrument that suits your level, budget and long-term goals.
How often should I practise?
As you progress and your pieces become more demanding, you may naturally increase your practice time. Your teacher will provide clear guidance on what to work on between lessons to ensure steady and meaningful progress.
Can I learn just for fun?
Your lessons can be entirely enjoyment-focused, centred on pieces and styles you love, while still giving you proper technique and musical understanding along the way.
Are group lessons available?
Groups are arranged by approximate level to ensure a comfortable pace and a positive atmosphere for all participants.
How do I enrol?
Enrolling is very simple — just complete our online enrolment form. Once received, we will contact you with available times, teacher options, and help you secure your place so you can begin without delay.
